Himesh Returns with 5 Big Films: Much Needed Comeback?

Himesh Reshammiya appears ready to reclaim his place in Bollywood’s music scene, and the timing could not be more interesting. The composer, singer and performer who dominated the 2000s with nasal vocals and chart-topping albums is returning with music for five upcoming films. The big question is whether the industry and listeners are ready for another Himesh era.

His upcoming lineup includes Sooraj Barjatya’s Yeh Prem Mol Liya, starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Sharvari, which releases on November 27, 2026. The same day will also see the release of Emraan Hashmi’s Gunmaaster G9.

Himesh is also associated with Anil Sharma’s Arjun Naga, featuring Utkarsh Sharma and Arjun Rampal, Vikram Bhatt’s 1920 Cold Winter, starring Ahan Shetty and Anya Singh, and Sunny Deol’s Suryaa, the remake directed by M. Padmakumar.

For a generation that grew up on songs such as Aashiq Banaya Aapne, Tera Surroor, Jhalak Dikhla Jaa and Tanhaiyaan, Himesh was a complete musical brand. His voice, melodies, caps, stage presence and signature sound became part of Bollywood’s pop culture. Even people who criticised his style could not deny that his songs were difficult to ignore.

However, the music industry has changed considerably since the 2000s. Songs now compete with short form videos, background scores and constantly changing listening habits. Audiences also have access to music from across languages and countries. That makes it harder for one composer to dominate the charts in the way Himesh once did.

His comeback, therefore, may not recreate the same phenomenon overnight. But if he can combine it with a fresher sound while retaining the emotional hook that made his music popular, he could still surprise the industry.
