Housefull 5 Weekend: Akshay Scores, Franchise Fades

Housefull 5 has had a good opening weekend at the Indian box office, but it hasn’t quite lived up to the hype. The film, starring Akshay Kumar and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, earned an estimated ₹79.75–87 crore over the first three days.

It started with ₹22 crore on Friday, saw a boost on Saturday with ₹28.5 crore thanks to Bakri Eid, and added another ₹29.25–32 crore on Sunday, depending on the source.

This is Akshay Kumar’s second-best opening weekend since the pandemic, behind only Sooryavanshi. It’s also the second-best opening for a Hindi film in 2025 so far. That said, for a big franchise like Housefull, expectations were higher.

Many trade experts expected the film to cross ₹85–90 crore over the weekend, and Sunday’s numbers, while solid, didn’t show the big jump that’s usually seen with successful films.

Now, all eyes are on Monday. If the film manages ₹10 crore or more, it could be on track for a ₹200 crore lifetime total. Even ₹8–10 crore would be a decent hold, potentially taking it to around ₹175 crore in the long run.

The film has done particularly well in Gujarat, where comedies often perform well over time. For Akshay Kumar, it’s a relief after several flops.

But for the Housefull franchise, the opening feels a bit underwhelming. The next few days will be crucial to see if it can pick up momentum and turn into the hit everyone hoped for.
