Remake of Pawan Kalyan’s Flop Remake: How Crazy!

John Abraham is reportedly planning to produce the Hindi remake of Malayalam film Ayyappanum Koshiyum under his company JA Entertainment, and also play a lead role at the same time.

The film is supposed to be directed by Prosit Roy, known for his work on Paatal Lok.

Notably, the Hindi remake has been in planning stages since 2020 after John brought the rights. However, the film did not go on floors for different reasons, including scheduling issues with certain actors.

Moreover, John had once considered bringing Anurag Kashyap to direct the film. Sources have claimed that the script is being rewritten to add more commercial elements and appeal to a huge section of the audience. Filming is supposed to start sometime this year.

Bollywood has been going through a tough phase for the last few years and a few remakes have only worked at the box office. In this condition, a remake of Ayyappanum Koshiyum might not be the right choice for John Abraham.

Ayyappanum Koshiyum previously had another remake in Telugu as Bheemla Nayak, featuring Pawan Kalyan in the lead. Compared to the original film, Bheemla Nayak did not emerge as a big hit at the box office.

Audiences of Bollywood films are already tired of watching remakes.

A good actor like Akshay Kumar is also struggling now to deliver a hit, specifically after doing so many remakes, starting with Selfiee in 2023. Selfiee was a remake of Malayalam film Driving Licence, also featuring Prithviraj.

Maybe John should consider doing original subjects now by not caring much about the box office results of those films. Bollywood desperately needs new and unique films today and opting for remakes might make people disinterested in watching Hindi films anymore.

But in case Ayyappaum Koshiyum’s remake happens as planned, it remains to be seen if the changes made to the script can pull huge crowds to the big screen.
