The second part of Pushpa is going great guns at the box office. In particular, the film is punching, pretty hard in the Hindi speaking markets. In fact, Pushpa 2 is the first film ever to open the Rs 700 crore netting market in Hindi.
The natural expectation is that the mighty record set by this new instalment of Pushpa in the Hindi belt would remain intact for a long time now.
How many there is one possible contender who can give this record a run for its money and it is Ramayan, which is under production.
This film has Ranbir Kapoor in the role of Lord Shri Ram while Sai Pallavi plays Seetha and Yash is playing Raavan.
The film has the Hindutva momentum batting for it in the northern market, while the presence of notable South faces will add impetus to the domestic South markets.
Even when it comes to the main Hindi market, it could largely benefit from the Hindutva notion. If the right emotion is worked out by the director, then sky is the limit here.
When a poorly made and promoted Adipurush could do in the range of ₹130 crore nett in the opening weekend in Hindi, one can only imaging the madness a well-made Ramayan would evoke.
Ranbir Kapoor is anyway, a big deal, even in the mass pockets of Hindi belt. So, all that this Ramayan needs now is some winning promotional material and relatively good watchable value, which would do the trick.
But if things go south and Ramayan and fails to match the expectations at the box office, then the record of Pushpa 2 could stay in place for a long time.
