South Cinema Stuck In Same Formula, No Progress

The debate of South vs. Bollywood has not ended yet and popular director Rakesh Roshan has now opened up about the same.

He claimed in a recent interview that South cinema has not progressed until now and has taken the safest way by depending on traditional songs along with action and dialogues.

Rakesh said that the South filmmakers are still using the same formulas in terms of storyline and that their films work for the same reason.

He said that their films are yet to witness some progress when it comes to the technical side.

He then addressed Bollywood by saying that they have always decided to try something outside the boundary.

He also gave an example of himself, saying that he did not repeat a romantic drama after Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai and made something different with Koi Mil Gaya.

Rakesh’s words cannot be denied. But the problem right now is that the audiences of the South have got habituated to the cinema where formulaic storylines are being brought in front of them.

The reason why formulaic plots work in the South is because they always bring a different kind of screenplay. Sometimes they work and in other cases, they turn out to be a failure. Despite a few problems, South audiences are not willing to let go of such storylines.

Bollywood has attempted a similar thing, but the difference is that they have made films that appeal to a certain section of the audience. However, it seems like the Hindi cinema still needs a script doctor so that they can continue delivering hits every month.
