AP Parishad Results: YSRCP Faces Major Setback in Rural Polls

The YSRCP has suffered significant electoral losses in the Andhra Pradesh MPTC and ZPTC elections, with the ruling TDP-Jana Sena-BJP alliance securing a substantial majority of the seats declared during counting on Saturday, November 7. The results follow the alliance’s victories in the recent municipal elections.

The opposition party, led by former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, struggled to retain its presence across several districts, including areas traditionally considered its political strongholds.

According to results reported during Saturday night’s counting, YSRCP had secured around 10 per cent of the ZPTC seats and less than 20 per cent of the MPTC seats. The ruling alliance maintained a considerable lead, although the final party-wise tally was still being compiled.

YSR Kadapa district, Jagan’s home region, witnessed several important results. Of the district’s 39 ZPTC constituencies, YSRCP reportedly secured only two seats, while the alliance registered substantial gains.

The TDP also won the Pulivendula and Mydukur ZPTC constituencies. TDP candidate Bharathi secured Pulivendula by 1,463 votes, while Krishna Kishore won Mydukur by a margin of 18,903 votes.

The results were also significant in Palnadu, where YSRCP failed to secure a ZPTC seat in the reported tally. TDP and Jana Sena candidates registered victories across the district, including several contests with large margins.

In Rayalaseema, Prakasam and Nellore districts, the alliance secured important victories in constituencies where YSRCP had previously maintained a strong political presence.

However, YSRCP registered victories in selected constituencies, including parts of Nandyal, Kurnool and agency areas such as Parvathipuram Manyam and Alluri Sitharama Raju districts.

The parishad results come after YSRCP’s defeat in the 2024 Assembly elections and its losses in the recent municipal elections. The latest outcome indicates that the party continues to face electoral challenges in both urban and rural constituencies.

The 2021 parishad elections were conducted under the then YSRCP government amid allegations of intimidation, nomination-related irregularities and misuse of official machinery. TDP boycotted those elections, accusing the ruling party of preventing fair competition.

The latest results provide a different political picture, with the TDP-led alliance securing a major share of rural local body representation. However, allegations concerning previous elections should be distinguished from independently established findings.

YSRCP president Jagan has also raised allegations of irregularities during the latest local body elections, accusing the ruling alliance of interfering with polling and counting. These claims remain disputed.

For the ruling alliance, the results represent another significant electoral outcome following the municipal polls. For YSRCP, the reduced number of elected representatives raises questions about its organisational position at the grassroots level.

The final statewide figures will provide a clearer assessment of the parties’ respective strength across Andhra Pradesh’s Mandal and Zilla Parishads.
