Ranbir: I am Working on the Greatest Story Ever

There are many versions of the Ramayana, a story many of us have been hearing about since childhood. Drawing inspiration from these, a new film based on this mythology is currently in the works.

Ranbir Kapoor, at the Red Sea Film Festival, talked about his upcoming film Ramayana. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, he opened up about his excitement to play the role of Lord Rama and calls it a ‘dream’.

He mentioned how his childhood friend, Namit Malhotra, has brought together the best artists and creatives from around the world to work on this project.

Ranbir talked about how there are two parts to the film, the shooting for the first one is already completed, and the second one is going to start soon.

“It’s a dream for a team”, the actor added, saying how he is extremely humbled to get the opportunity to portray Lord Rama. He called it “the greatest story ever”.

The film is a story about culture, he says. It is a tale of the victory of good over evil, family dynamics, and husband-wife dynamics.

Alongside Ranbir, the film will feature Ravi Dubey as Lakshman, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Raavana, and Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman, among others.

A few months ago, the makers of the film confirmed that part 1 of the film is planned to be released on Diwali 2026 and part 2 is planned for Diwali 2027.

Ranbir has another project in the works—Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love and War, starring alongside Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal.
