Salman’s Comeback Film: What Went Wrong?

Salman Khan’s ambitious war drama Battle of Galwan was expected to be one of Bollywood’s boldest projects, based on the deadly India–China clash in the Galwan Valley. The film promised strong patriotic appeal but never progressed to the shooting stage despite early preparations.

According to film critic Kamaal R Khan (KRK), the issue was not related to budget or casting but to obtaining Defence Ministry clearance, which is mandatory for films depicting real military events. Reports suggest the project stalled at this stage and could not move forward.

KRK claims that even if permissions had been possible earlier, the current political climate made the film risky. With India and China working to improve diplomatic relations, a movie focused on the Galwan conflict might be seen as anti China, something the government would likely wish to avoid.

He adds that releasing the film now could pose political and commercial risks. Even Salman Khan’s star power might not ensure success if the timing conflicted with the country’s diplomatic priorities. Shelving the project, according to KRK, was a smart move to avoid unnecessary controversy and protect the actor’s career.

His comments highlight an uncomfortable truth in Bollywood films on sensitive topics depend not only on creative vision but also on the political climate. If the conditions are unfavourable, such projects are quietly dropped long before cameras start rolling.
