Bengali Singer Lagnajita Chakraborty has shaken the internet by making serious allegations of sexual harassment against prominent music director Rajesh Roshan.
She revealed that the director behaved inappropriately with her, putting his hand under her skirt after inviting her to his residence in Santacruz, Mumbai, in the 1990s.
Clarifying the massive delay in coming public with her statements, she said that it was fear that kept her from reporting the incident then and there.
She said that now she can share it freely as she has overcome her fear and dread.
Social media has been massively divided on this matter, with some coming out to support her while others being quick to criticise her.
One user said, “It takes immense courage to speak up after so many years. We stand with you.”
Another raised his doubts at her as he commented, “Why speak out now? What’s the motive after decades?”
Unfortunately, this incident only makes up a single case among thousands of such complaints of abuse of power by a powerful personality.
If her statements are true, then the industry needs to wake up quickly, letting go of its previous acts to take full responsibility.
