Director Atlee had suggested Vikram Rathore as the mass hero in Jawan, but SRK still preferred his romantic role Azad first. After Jawan became a hit, SRK admitted that what Atlee had thought was right.

Atlee had believed that Vikram Rathore would connect with the audience, but SRK had opted for Azad due to his romantic image. However, Atlee was right as he proved to be much more favored by the viewers.

This proves how Shah Rukh Khan does not want to portray parts that do not come under his genre of a romantic hero. Even though the film boasts him with the legend love role, the success of Vikram Rathore is evidence of the modern viewers wanting flexible and dynamic characters, for which SRK needs to be aware.

To be relevant, SRK needs to work with directors who will make him try out new roles. He can then reach out to the younger as well as the older crowds by embracing a varied cast of people, thereby expanding his legacy beyond the standard of the romantic hero.

If he can come out of his romantic self, then Shah Rukh Khan will be relevant. He can reinvent his legacy if he accepts a variety of roles and works with filmmakers that challenge him, thereby reaching out to an even wider audience.
