A film based on Operation Khukri was once expected to be a dream project, but as per the latest update, it has been shelved yet again. Despite years of planning, the film faces unresolved issues that continue to stall its progress. Initially announced in 2017, the project was to be produced by Sunir Khetarpal, with Shah Rukh Khan starring in the lead and Red Chillies Entertainment joining as co-producer. However, the film has hit multiple roadblocks over the years.
After the failure of Zero in 2018, SRK took a long hiatus, and the film faded from public attention. Then, in 2024, director Amit Sharma was brought on board, reviving hopes for the project. Plans were set for production to begin later this year, targeting a 2026 release. However, the script remains incomplete, and crucial casting and budget decisions are still pending. Although SRK was initially considered, other stars have also been approached without any confirmation.
Amit Sharma has since shifted focus to another project, a time-travel film under Maddock Films with Ranveer Singh playing a major role. An official announcement on that project is expected soon. Meanwhile, Operation Khukri appears stuck in limbo. With packed schedules and shifting priorities, it’s becoming increasingly unlikely that the film will move forward anytime soon—if at all.
Despite the story’s commercial potential, many actors seem reluctant to portray army officers. War-based films inspired by real-life events also appear to be underperforming lately, even with A-list actors. This hesitation may be affecting other high-profile projects too, including Salman Khan’s upcoming Battle of Galwan, which faces similar concerns.
Whether Operation Khukri will eventually make it to the big screen remains to be seen. As of now, the project is stalled, with no clear timeline for production. It may continue to exist only as a plan, waiting for the right time—or the right risk-taker—to bring it to life.
