Golden Run at Risk? OTT Suitable Film in Theaters

Sunny Deol in upcoming Safar movie

Sunny Deol’s much-awaited film Safar is now set for a theatrical release earlier than expected, before Border 2 hits cinemas. The movie, still under its working title Safar, will release only in theatres, with no OTT premiere planned.

The makers have not yet confirmed an exact release date, but the film is expected to arrive towards the end of 2025. Unlike Sunny’s usual action-packed roles, Safar will present him in a completely different avatar.

The story will revolve around a family man who is deeply caring and committed to his loved ones. Simran Bagga will feature alongside Sunny in the lead role. Sunny is currently in the US, and marketing plans will be finalised once he returns.

While this update excites fans waiting for Safar, it creates concerns for Border 2, scheduled for a January release. As Border 2 is part of a well-known franchise, its performance could be affected if audiences see Sunny in two films close together.

Border 2 has faced several delays and controversies, including demands for removing Diljit Dosanjh from the cast. Given its long production journey, a box office setback due to Safar’s timing could be a major blow.

Industry discussions suggest that Sunny might benefit from postponing Safar to 2026 to avoid this clash. For now, the decision remains pending, and fans will have to wait to see how the release calendar unfolds.
