‘Dhurandhar Spreads Hate, Violence & Stereotypes Muslims’

Ira Bhaskar, the mother of actor Swara Bhaskar, has criticised the political messaging in the film Dhurandhar. The film was directed by Aditya Dhar and has been widely discussed in recent months.

Her comments come as the sequel Dhurandhar: The Revenge, starring Ranveer Singh, is preparing for release. The upcoming film has already generated strong attention among audiences.

Speaking on the YouTube channel Karwan e Mohabbat, Ira Bhaskar acknowledged the technical quality of the film. She described Aditya Dhar as a capable filmmaker.

However, she said the film’s ideological undertones deserve closer examination. According to her, commercial success should not prevent discussions about a film’s messaging.

Ira Bhaskar argued that the narrative contains high levels of violence. She believes the storyline reflects a specific political perspective.

She also claimed that several Muslim characters in the film are shown mainly in connection with extremism. In her view, they are often portrayed as terrorists or gangsters.

Ira Bhaskar further said that the film presents Pakistan largely as a violent nation. She suggested that this leaves little room for more nuanced or everyday portrayals.

She also questioned whether filmmaking style and narrative message can be separated. According to her, both aspects influence how audiences interpret a film.

While the film’s scale and action design have received praise, she believes the broader narrative impact should also be considered.

At the same time, Dhurandhar has received appreciation from several filmmakers. Directors Ram Gopal Varma and Sandeep Reddy Vanga have publicly praised its style and storytelling.
