Biggest Blockbusters Without Sequels: SRK, SSR, Dhar Rule

Indian cinema has witnessed some extraordinary box office success stories over the years. But a handful of films stand apart because they became massive worldwide blockbusters without depending on the popularity of a previous installment.

Sitting comfortably at the top is Aamir Khan‘s Dangal with an incredible worldwide collection of around ₹2,034 crore. Its phenomenal performance in China transformed what was already a major Indian hit into one of the biggest global success stories.

Dhurandhar follows with approximately ₹1,254 crore. It gave Ranveer Singh one of the biggest commercial successes of his career.

Shah Rukh Khan‘s Jawan comes next at around ₹1,157 crore. Atlee’s action entertainer attracted audiences across India and international markets.

SS Rajamouli’s RRR collected around ₹1,120 crore and went far beyond being just a box office blockbuster. Ram Charan and Jr NTR’s epic action drama eventually became a global pop culture sensation.

Pathaan stands at approximately ₹1,048 crore. Shah Rukh Khan’s return to an action role created enormous excitement and resulted in one of the biggest theatrical comebacks Bollywood had witnessed in years.

Prabhas followed with Kalki 2898 AD, which reportedly finished around ₹1,012 crore worldwide.

Secret Superstar remains perhaps the most unusual name among these giants. The comparatively small film reached approximately ₹905 crore worldwide.

Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal sits close behind at around ₹904 crore. Salman Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan stands at approximately ₹902 crore.

Completing this remarkable group is Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava at around ₹757 crore. The historical drama became a theatrical sensation and established itself among the biggest Hindi cinema success stories of recent years.

Together, these films show that Indian cinema doesn’t necessarily need a sequel number attached to the title to create a box office event. Sometimes a new story, the right star and strong audience interest are enough to turn a film into a phenomenon.
