Box Office Disaster: A.R. Rahman Faces Massive Backlash

A.R. Rahman faces criticism over Batwara 1947

Batwara 1947 marked the return of Sunny Deol to the big screen after a gap of around seven months. While the makers expected crowds to enter the theatres, things turned out to be completely opposite, with Awarapan 2 taking a huge opening and a big start with packed theatres across India.

While the content of the film is believed to be one of the major reasons behind the ongoing situation, trade experts and critics said that there is another thing that contributed to Batwara 1947’s failure, which is the film’s music.

Considering the main theme of the film, Batwara 1947 needed a good soundtrack with patriotic vibes, which could have helped the storyline to connect with the audience. As of now, netizens have started blaming A.R. Rahman for his underwhelming music.

People pointed out that the background music of the film was not up to the mark and it failed to create an impact in the most important sequences from the movie. A few even expressed shock over how Rajkumar Santoshi went wrong in this department, considering that the director has a track record of having a good soundtrack in his movies since the beginning.

Netizens additionally questioned the choice of the makers, including Aamir Khan. They stated that A.R. Rahman has hardly delivered anything memorable over the last ten years after Tamasha. A few others said that the producers could have approached popular composers like Anu Malik.

A particular section advised the producers of the upcoming films to avoid bringing A.R. Rahman for music. They stated that his work in South films is also the same now. A few recalled the music of Peddi, where only one single, Chikiri, emerged as a chartbuster. Some said that Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava was also ruined to some extent due to A.R. Rahman’s music.

The reactions have clearly proved that something is going wrong with A.R. Rahman’s work and he needs to reinvent himself. Selecting him as the music composer is now expected to raise questions every time, and based on that, let’s see if the filmmakers will listen to the feedback or they will prefer to trust A.R. Rahman again.
