BO Puzzle: Husband Scores Blockbusters, Wife Delivers Flops

Yami Gautam’s Nayyi Navelli became a topic of discussion when the first trailer was released. The makers attempted to enter the horror-comedy genre, as it had a chance of becoming successful at the box office. Unfortunately, the numbers were not up to the mark.

Yami’s film clashed with Rajkummar Rao’s Prahaar on the same day. However, the opening brought some hope as it was a little better compared to Prahaar, with numbers reported to be around Rs. 3 crore.

The figures increased on Saturday by Rs. 4 crore. But the third day failed to bring any major changes as it had a slight rise, touching the mark of Rs. 4.25 crore, leading to a total collection of Rs. 11.25 crore on the weekend. Online reports say that the movie will somehow finish with a lifetime number of Rs. 25 crore, emerging as a flop in the end.

The failure of Nayyi Navelli has now raised a lot of questions. Trade experts and critics were also shocked, as they believe that Yami is a fabulous actress and she has the potential to pull audiences with a solo film.

On the other hand, netizens noted that the release timing was wrong for the film, as the Navratri festival period hardly manages to attract audiences to the theatres, considering that everyone remains busy at home, preparing for the celebrations.

A few others stated that although the storyline had a lot of potential, the screenplay and a dragging second half, followed by the climax, destroyed the entire film. But the major reason that has been pointed out by the audience is the lack of buzz before release. They stated that the makers should have opted for better promotional strategies.

Meanwhile, Yami’s current situation at the box office has led to comparisons with her husband, Aditya Dhar. Many people wrote on social media that while her better half delivered two big blockbusters with the Dhurandhar franchise, Yami’s script selections went wrong and she delivered two flops, with Haq being the first.

Netizens wrote that Aditya could have advised Yami before she decided to do Nayyi Navelli. However, many people disagreed with this, saying that the actress is sensible enough to understand the difference between right and wrong, and from this point, she might not repeat the same mistake.

Despite the failure of Nayyi Navelli, all eyes are on Yami’s next film. But it will be interesting to see whether she will try to leave an impression with a solo film or whether she will try to shine among the audience by playing a female lead opposite a superstar.
