Prahaar Review: Controversial Subject, Weak Screenplay

Rajkummar Rao Prahaar Movie Review

After a long wait, Rajkummar Rao’s Prahaar has arrived on the big screen. The actor plays the popular lawyer Ujjwal Nikam, and it also features Jaideep Ahlawat and Wamiqa Gabbi in important roles.

The trailer was impressive. But now the public says that the movie is decent but not extraordinary. The majority of the social media reviews have stated that audiences are disappointed with a lot of things in the film. Most of them even stated that it could have been a better experience, considering the subject.

While Rajkummar Rao has always impressed when it comes to portraying a person who exists in real life, this time the actor could not do the same. Public reactions on social media have stated that he is either decent or underwhelming, specifically in the confrontation inside the court.

People also wrote that the court sequences have not been written in an engaging manner. They said that while the dialogues work to a great extent, the screenplay fails to create the tension that is needed for the theme that it has selected.

A few have also called it a boring experience. They said that the movie does not keep audiences engaged until the interval. Although it picks up after the second half, it fails to leave the desired impact. The same people wrote that the film deserved some trimming as it is extremely lengthy and that although the script tries to get the attention of the audience, it does not work.

Some stated that Jaideep Ahlawat deserved a better role. But according to most of the reviews, the person who takes away the spotlight is Lalit Prabhakar as Ajmal Kasab. Most of them questioned why Wamiqa Gabbi decided to do the film when her character does not have much to contribute to the storyline.

Prahaar has been released in theatres on October 16, 2026, along with Yami Gautam’s Nayyi Navelli. Both the movies recorded very low numbers in advance bookings, seemingly hinting that audiences preferred to see some other kind of content in this festive season.

Rajkummar’s films have always worked at the box office if the content is up to the mark. The actor has been struggling to deliver a big hit after Stree 2. Considering the lack of interest among audiences and the mixed response to the content, it seems like Prahaar will face a hard time in terms of attracting huge crowds to the theatres.
