Netflix is releasing a Bride of Frankenstein remake, after Universal’s years of work. In the original 1935 picture, Dr. Frankenstein creates a bride as his first creature. The recreation has involved a variety of filmmakers and performers, but the Universal Dark Universe, who’s featured classic monsters such as Dracula and The Mummy, came closest to a successful remake.
Christian Bale will play the monster, with a star-studded ensemble including Jessie Buckley, Annette Bening, Penélope Cruz, and Gyllenhaal’s husband, Peter Sarsgaard.
The most recent Bride of Frankenstein rumor is that the remake will be directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal for Netflix. Maggie Gyllenhaal is best recognized as an actor, having portrayed Elizabeth Darko in Donnie Darko and Rachel Dawes in The Dark Knight.
Maggie Gyllenhaal is well recognized for her acting roles, including Elizabeth Darko in Donnie Darko and Rachel Dawes in The Dark Knight. However, Bride of Frankenstein is not Gyllenhaal’s directorial debut; she helmed 2021’s The Lost Daughter, which got 94% on Rotten Tomatoes – a number that bodes quite well for the Bride of Frankenstein adaptation. Along with the formal release from Netflix, Christian Bale and Peter Skaarsgard were announced as members of the Bride of Frankenstein remake ensemble.
