The list of Golden Globe winners is out and like every year many of the favourites did not make it to the winners list. The most surprising one was “Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse”.
Miyazaki’s “The Boy and the Heron” beat Across the Spider-Verse to win the Golden Globe For Best Animated Feature Film. It also became the first non-English-language animated film to win the award.
Across the Spider-Verse is among the highest-rated movies of 2023 and did extremely well at the box office. It was the highest-rated movie on Letterboxd (an online social cataloguing service for movies).
The Boy and the Heron is a fantasy movie while Across the Spider-Verse is the sequel to “Spider-Man Into The Spider-Verse” It was nominated across three categories: Best Animated Feature Film, Cinematic and Box Office Achievement and Best Original Score.
It did not win any of the awards which came as a surprise to many. Miyakazi’s win proves that Hollywood is finally turning its attention towards movies from other parts of the world, especially Asia. This move may turn out to be beneficial for non-English movies to gain worldwide popularity.
