The USA is undeniably experiencing a growing interest in foreign films, with audiences becoming more acquainted with cinematic offerings from around the world. Previously, the RRR storm captivated the USA audience, and now Japanese films are the latest sensation.
The preferences of USA’s top foreign film enthusiasts indicate a love for both Indian and Japanese cinema. Currently, two Japanese films are vying for the top spot, with the Miyazaki sensation “The Boy And The Heron” already reigning supreme at the box office in the USA. However, there is potential for even greater numbers.
The Godzilla phenomenon is also prominently on display, with “Godzilla Minus One” having a colossal opening at the box office, standing at an impressive $25.3 million as of the last weekend. The storm is far from over, as both movies are set to gain more exposure in over 2300 theaters across the USA in the upcoming weekends.
One major reason behind this expansion is the current lack of films in the market. Most productions seem to be targeting a holiday release, resulting in a relatively calm phase before the holidays. However, for international films, this presents an opportunity for growth.
