This is probably the biggest flop in the history of YRF banner as their latest film “Aaha Kalyanam” has turned out to be a disaster. The film merely managed to collect only Rs. 2 crore from both the versions in its opening weekend. Even recent Tamil films like Goli Soda had a better opening than this film.
The film didn’t work out because it turned out to be a frame-to-frame copy of the original. While it was recreated frame-to-frame, what also lacked was the south Indian sensibility in the story. This is a disaster considering the film comes from a prestigious banner and was a blockbuster in Hindi. Moreover, they shot in one language (Tamil or Telugu) and dubbed it into the other. Even this didn’t go down well with the viewers.
The film was a disaster too overseas. According to Taran Adarsh, trade analyst, the Tamil version had collected Rs. 2.21 lakh in USA, Rs. 22,835 in Canada, Rs. 89,947 in Australia and Rs. 16, 143 in New Zealand. The Telugu version collected Rs. 86,871 in USA
