Drug Test for Actors, Lie Detector Test for Politicians?

A shocking controversy has stirred strong reactions after MLA Anirudh Reddy made bold comments targeting the Telugu film industry. The MLA said that film actors are role models and should act responsibly, especially when it comes to issues like drug abuse.

According to him, many young fans follow and imitate their favorite stars, so actors should set the right example. He went a step further and suggested that actors should undergo drug tests every 90 days and make the results public. He also proposed that films should only be allowed to release in theatres if the lead actors test negative.

These comments immediately sparked strong reactions on social media. Many people felt his intentions may be good but questioned the logic behind linking a film’s release to an actor’s personal medical test. Some also felt that this was diverting attention from other important issues and unnecessarily targeting the film industry.

The response from Tollywood was quick and sharp. Manchu Vishnu, President of the Movie Artists Association, openly challenged the MLA’s stance. He pointed out that actors are ready to undergo such tests but asked whether elected leaders would be willing to explain what kind of tests or checks they go through before contesting elections. His statement brought the focus back on equal accountability.

Actor Rahul Ramakrishna reacted in his own style, using sarcasm to make a strong point. He said he was ready to take a drug test, even though he is not a lead hero, but challenged politicians to take lie detector tests in return.

This has led to a bigger question. If actors are being asked to prove responsibility, should not politicians also show the same level of transparency?

What started as a comment about drug testing has now turned into a much larger debate about fairness. Should responsibility be placed only on celebrities, or should leaders also be held to the same standards?
