AP Film chamber vandalised by T film activists

The lease system of theatres across AP and Telangana had been an issue of debate since many years. It has become a common sight; small time film makers and producers alleging on theatre mafia and accusing some big producers for monolpoly on theatres. The differences seem to be growing and an unseen anxiety is persisting.

On Friday, a group of Telangana Fim activists attacked the AP Film Chamber office in Jubilee Hills and vandalised it breaking window panes, throwing stones and damaging property. P.Ramakrishna Goud, the president of Telangana Film & TV Producers Guild went on a week long hunger strike protesting against the theatre lease system alleging that some producers’ monopoly on theatres isn’t allowing the release of many small films which are ready for release.

He accused that the theatres are demanding more than Rs.3 lakhs while the owners are paid only Rs.1 lakh. He even had complaints on the irregularity of the elections to be held for the Film Chamber of Commerce and also on the aspect that Hyderabad is totally ignored for general body meetings. He got assurance from Telangana State Transport Minister on Thursday that the matter would be taken to the T State CM.

Even after the assurance from the Minister and the hunger strike had been called off by Ramakrishna, Telangana Film activists attacked the Chamber office and vandalised it causing damage to property. Finally the police had to intervene to bring the condition under control.
