Indian army casts eye on Telugu & Tamil Youth

Indian Army is eyeing the vast resource of unemployed engineering and industrial training institute (ITI) pass outs in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to induct them in to the country’s weaponry in future. This move by the army is to recruit technical graduates. These three states are zeroed in as they have the largest number of technical institutes in the country.

These candidates with better academics may have the chance of rising through the ranks faster and could even become officers within a year depending on their performance. A soldier’s minimum eligibility is Class 10 pass, but an engineering or ITI graduate will get a marginally higher pay.

These three states together have 6,000 vacancies — Tamil Nadu (2400), Andhra Pradesh (1800) and Telangana (1600) — for soldiers under various categories such as general duty, technical, nursing assistant, clerk, store keeper and tradesmen. Usually a soldier draws Rs 24,000 – Rs 35,000 per month depending on posted locations that range from peace stations to the Siachen Glacier.
