Atlee Two Blunders

Atlee’s Baby John starring Varun Dhawan has turned out to be one of the biggest disasters in recent times. There were expectations that it would gross 200 crores at the box office. But now, a lifetime business of even 50 crores looks impossible.

There are many reasons for Baby John’s failure, including it being a remake of an almost decade-old film Theri. But one of the major reasons is also Atlee’s overconfidence and pompousness.

Atlee made tall claims that Baby John would catapult Varun into the superstar league, just like Animal did for Ranbir. That statement is now being mocked on social media. Forget Animal, Varun Dhawan couldn’t even match Vijay from Theri.

However, Atlee made another pompous statement recently. He said his next film is going to be the proudest film of our country. He plans to cast Salman Khan along with a big South Indian superstar in the film.

Atlee, who is trolled for being a copycat, and whose films are mostly a mishmash of old Tamil films, is making claims that his next film would be the best film India has ever produced.

Such statements suit only Rajamouli’s films. He is making his next with Mahesh Babu, and the audience also expects that film to take Indian cinema to the next level—not a film by Atlee. While Atlee may direct many blockbusters, he would remain only a commercial director with limited range.

If he makes a film that India would be proud of, it would be a miracle, and everyone will appreciate it. But if he goes wrong, then he can expect unlimited trolling on social media, much more brutal than he faced for his Baby John-Animal statement.
