First state to get NRI votes in India!

Non-Residential Indians have, until now, been missing out on the opportunity of voting for their representatives in the elections held in India. However, according to the new ‘one-way electronic postal ballot system’, votes can be casted through a semi-electronic procedure that doesn’t require the caster being physically present at the election.

It is said that this technique will be first implemented in the Bihar elections which will be held by the end of this year after the amendment of the Representation of People’s Act (RPA), 1951. The process of voting via the ‘One-way electronic postal ballot system’ states that a password to unlock a ballot paper will be sent to the email of the NRI voter, the voter will then mark against their choice of candidate and will send the ballot via mail.

While the poll panel is still working on making the process more efficient, it seems that Bihar will be the first state to have this new voting technique introduced in its upcoming elections.
