CBFC Certification Rules and Their Impact on Telugu Cinema
Telugu cinema has developed a habit of racing against time, especially when it comes to completing big films. VFX work, background scores, and other technical portions sometimes continue almost until the release date. However, the latest CBFC instructions could make this last-minute approach more difficult for filmmakers.
According to reports, the CBFC wants makers to submit only the final version of a film for certification. This means the graphics, subtitles, final background music, and closed captions must all be ready. Films with pending editing or CG work could be rejected and sent back instead of being considered for certification.
The board has also made it clear that a film’s announced release date will not influence its certification process. Even the title announced by the makers is subject to the board’s approval.
These instructions could force producers to plan their post-production schedules more carefully and apply for certification well in advance. For big-budget films with extensive VFX work, this could be particularly important.
The bigger question is whether Telugu filmmakers will now move away from their last-minute finishing culture. If these instructions are followed strictly, completing a film on time will become just as important as planning its release.
