Chai Bisket has been a popular platform in Telugu digital entertainment for more than a decade. They recently launched a new OTT platform called Chai Shots. The app is being promoted as India’s first regional short series OTT platform.
However, certain shows on the app have now started getting heavy backlash on social media. Some viewers objected to themes shown in a few shorts, including a storyline about romance between a 10-year-old boy and a girl in her 20s, and content revolving around extramarital affairs. These themes triggered backlash across social media platforms.
Several comments have gone viral. One user wrote that the content feels similar to “soft porn” apps like ULLU and questioned what kind of material is being shown to Telugu audiences. Another user sarcastically referred to a short titled “Vayasu Theda 10 Samvatsaralu” and asked whether the app would now move from “30 weds 20” to “20 weds 10” just to attract views. Others questioned whether seducing married women and promoting illegal and immoral affairs can truly be called entertainment.
The main concern expressed by netizens is that Chai Shots was introduced as a fresh and innovative platform for short form storytelling, but some feel it is drifting toward cheap adult content.
At this stage, it remains to be seen how the Chai Shots team will respond to the trolling.
