Controversial Star Exposes Dark Side of Tollywood

Shweta Basu Prasad recently shared her experience of being bullied on a film set during her acting career, revealing it as the only instance of such treatment in her entire career.

Known for her roles in several OTT films such as Comedy Couple, India Lockdown, Serious Men, and The Tashkent Files, Shweta explained how she was constantly mocked for her height while working on a Telugu film.

In the interview with Bollywood Bubble, Shweta mentioned that, although she was often praised for her looks, she was subjected to ridicule over something she couldn’t control.

In a candid revelation, Shweta shared an experience from a Telugu film where she was subjected to constant remarks about her height. At just 5’2″, she was constantly reminded of her height, especially since her male co-star was nearly 6 feet tall.

She pointed out the irony that while the hero struggled with his Telugu lines, needing multiple retakes, it was her height that became the focus of criticism.

“He would mess up every scene, give retakes, and despite being Telugu, couldn’t speak the language well. But here I was, managing the language even though I couldn’t speak it fluently,” she said.

What frustrated her even more was the fact that she had no control over her height, yet it was constantly pointed out, as if it were her fault. “It’s something that genetically happens. You manage it,” she added, expressing how this was the only set where she felt truly bullied.

Shweta, who started her career in Telugu cinema with Kotha Bangaru Lokam and has worked in multiple projects since, did not reveal the name of the film. She hit the headlines when she was arrested in a prostitution case.

Some people argue that when a film or series is about to be released, certain actresses seem to make allegations or come forward with controversial statements about the Tollywood industry.

The timing of these revelations often raises suspicions that they are made to grab instant headlines and generate buzz, particularly as a way to attract more attention to their upcoming projects.

However, she is currently preparing for her new series Oops Ab Kya, set to stream on JioHotstar from February 20.
