Rajinikanth’s Coolie box office projections rise

Coolie directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and starring superstar Rajinikanth is set to be one of the year’s biggest releases. Scheduled for August 14 the film is creating huge excitement across India with early trade estimates suggesting over ₹6 crore from Hindi markets on day one despite clashing with War 2.

The cast includes Nagarjuna, Soubin Shahir, Aamir Khan, Upendra Shruti Haasan and others which has added to the buzz. Hindi multiplex chains have already sold over 20,000 tickets and the figure could touch 50,000 before release. Trade experts describe Coolie as a sleeping volcano ready to erupt with strong advance bookings in Tamil Nadu Andhra Pradesh Telangana Kerala Karnataka and overseas.

Worldwide opening gross is projected in the ₹140–150 crore range. Day one estimates point to ₹28 crore plus from Tamil Nadu ₹15 crore plus from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana ₹9 crore plus from Kerala ₹11 crore plus from Karnataka ₹7 crore plus from the rest of India and over ₹70 crore from overseas.

For Rajinikanth this marks a high-stakes comeback after Vettaiyan while for Lokesh Kanagaraj it is another ambitious project less than a year after Leo. With a predicted extended global weekend gross of around ₹400 crore Coolie could even surpass 2.0 as the highest-grossing Kollywood film if word of mouth is strong.

The War 2 clash massive scale and towering expectations make Coolie one of the most anticipated and potentially game changing releases in recent Indian box office history.
