The release of Salaar on December 22nd has reshuffled the movie release plans for Christmas 2023. Venkatesh’s Saindhav, Nani’s Hi Nanna, and Nithiin’s Extra Ordinary Man are no longer part of the Christmas race.
Saindhav has officially announced its participation in the Sankranthi 2024 competition. Hi Nanna has been moved to December 7, with an official announcement coming soon.
Varun Tej’s Operation Valentine (officially announced), Vishwak Sen’s Gangs Of Godavari (confirmed by Vishwak Sen himself), and Nithiin’s Extra Ordinary Man (officially announced) are also releasing on December 8.
The decision to have four films vie for attention on a regular date like December 7/8 has left many scratching their heads. Just one week before, Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s “Animal” will hit the screens, and in the later weeks, there are big releases including Captain Miller, Dunki, and Salaar.
This crowded release schedule offers little breathing space for the aforementioned four films. In a regular week with no major holidays, even with positive word-of-mouth, it’s a risky decision for these fairly budgeted films. All four films will eat into each other’s business.
Moreover, considering that the Telangana state election results will be announced on December 3, people will likely still be engrossed in post-election discussions, making it a less-than-ideal week for such a crowded release. Releasing four films during such a week which has no big potential is being considered suicidal by the trade experts.
