DevaDas – High For Nag, Low For Nani

DevaDas which hit cinemas all over yesterday (September 27) has taken a good opening at the box office. The numbers are already out; we take a look at how it registers for the two stars part of the movie. At less than 5 Cr, the number is lower than both Geetha Govindam and Shailaja Reddy Alludu that came in the recent past in the Telugu states.

First, we look at the numbers from King Nagarjuna perspective. It is a massive relief for the senior star. After a gap and an epic embarrassment of Officer (Check Here), he is back strongly. It is the career-best opening for him. In the long run, DevaDas could very well be his second-best grosser. Even if that doesn’t happen, third place looks confirmed as of now.

When we see the same numbers from Nani’s perspective, we get a different picture. The opening is similar to his last solo outing, in the Telugu states. The worldwide figure is also at the same levels. It is definitely going to perform better than his previous outing in the final tally, but, the benchmarks have changed for him. Nani needed a solid opening which is missing, and that brings him down in competition.
