2023 was a fairly productive year for Indian films with the likes of Jawan and Pathan hitting 1000 crore worldwide gross while Animal ended up in the vicinity of Rs 900 crores.
Cut to 2024, Kalki is narrowly missing out on this mark as the film is likely to end up in the range of Rs 900 crore gross.
As for the remainder of 2024, we have Pushpa 2 and Devara which are the two major pan Indian outings from South cinema.
Realistically speaking, the chances of Pushpa 2 aiming at the 1000 crore mark far supersede Devara’s chances.
The sequel hype and the ultra wide reach for the first part of Pushpa franchise could well work wonderfully well for Pushpa 2.
The Allu Arjun starrer has a lot riding on it and with a good word of mouth, it could well aim at the Rs 1000 crore mark. If so, it could be the first and only 1000 crore film in India for the years 2024.
Devara is the first instalment of the two-part franchise and there is skepticism on the reach in the all-important Hindi belt. Has RRR hype worked in favour of NTR? We will get a picture after looking at the openings.
For now, the only film with a realistic chance of emerging as a Rs 1000 crore grosser is Pushpa 2. But this is also subject to trailer hype and the advance bookings.
