VD to Akshay, Salman: Every Dil Raju Film a Massive Gamble

Dil Raju films face box office risk

One of Tollywood’s top producers, Dil Raju, has always carried the reputation of playing a safe game. However, when one looks closely at his 2026 lineup, it becomes clear that he is taking some massive risks. From Tollywood to Bollywood, Dil Raju is planning films with big stars, but trade circles are now actively discussing the risks hidden within these combinations. Even though these projects feature popular actors, the current box office trend suggests that each of them is a high stakes gamble.

One of the projects that everyone is keenly observing is Rowdy Janardhan, starring Vijay Deverakonda and directed by Ravi Kiran Kola. The makers have already released a glimpse, and the film promises raw, violent, mass action. This movie is extremely important for Vijay Deverakonda, as his attempts to establish a strong mass image have only backfired so far. Whether intense action and bloodshed will work in his favor remains uncertain. This time, his rowdy image must translate into box office numbers.

Another interesting but risky project is Yellamma, with music director Devi Sri Prasad making his debut as a hero under the direction of Venu Yeldandi, who proved his talent with Balagam. While the concept has generated curiosity and buzz, casting Devi as the lead is a bold experiment. The film’s fate will largely depend on whether audiences accept him as a protagonist. If expectations go wrong, the result could be disastrous. However, if handled well, it could create a major impact at the box office in Telangana due to its cultural significance.

Dil Raju has also shifted strong focus toward Bollywood. His remake of Sankranthiki Vasthunnam with Akshay Kumar, directed by Anees Bazmee, has already gone on floors. Akshay Kumar is currently going through a bad phase after a string of flops, and many doubt whether the ‘cringe’ comedy will work without Anil Ravipudi’s masterful execution, who handled the original. Remaking a comedy with a struggling star makes it even more risky.

The biggest gamble, however, is the combination of Salman Khan and Vamshi Paidipally. Salman Khan has not delivered a solid hit for over a decade, and Hindi audiences are increasingly rejecting outdated commercial formulas. Since Vamshi is known for a conventional commercial style, the big question is whether he can reinvent himself. Without a fresh approach, this project could struggle heavily.

Overall, Dil Raju’s lineup looks very grand on paper, but every project comes with huge risks and challenges. Trade analysts believe that unless the content strongly connects, these films may not survive at the box office. As a producer, Dil Raju has placed bold bets, and only time will tell how effectively these calculations work out.
