Dil Raju's Ramayana Distribution Gamble
Namit Malhotra’s ambitious project Ramayana, starring Ranbir Kapoor, will arrive in cinemas on November 5. The makers are aggressively promoting the film with back-to-back promotional assets.
The latest update is that Dil Raju’s SVC will distribute Ramayana in the Telugu states. Dil Raju has handled the Telugu releases of several big pan-India films, but the results have been mixed.
Films like KGF 2, Jawan, Animal, Jailer and Premalu turned out to be jackpots for him. However, Ponniyin Selvan 2, L2: Empuraan, Beast and the recent disaster Toxic failed to deliver the expected results.
Now, Dil Raju is betting big on Ramayana. The exact deal amount is not known, but it is expected to involve a huge investment considering the film’s scale and expectations.
Ramayana is reportedly being made on a massive budget of Rs. 4,000 crores across its two parts. With a huge star cast and a story known across India, expectations are enormous. However, the current buzz does not seem to match the film’s scale.
Despite the huge budget and star cast, audiences do not seem emotionally invested in the film yet. The trailers and songs have also failed to create the kind of devotional impact that could connect with the masses.
This makes Ramayana another massive risk for Dil Raju, especially after the setback with Toxic.
For Dil Raju, positive word of mouth could change everything. If audiences connect with the devotional angle and are blown away by the CGI and VFX, Ramayana could turn into another jackpot. Otherwise, it could become another costly gamble.
