‘First Day First Show’ Model Squashed by PVR

The ‘First Day First Show’ going to be rolled out by Reliance Jio for it’s broadband customers has certainty evoked a dialogue among the people who are stake holders in theatrical chains.

Bringing a new movie to the customers on the day of the release is certainly going to hurt the theatrical prospects. So, big cinema chains aka PVR cinema and INOX have voiced their concern and opinion on the First Day First Show model out forward by Reliance.

There has been a clause giving an 8 week window time between a theatrical release and the release of a new film on other platforms. If this new model comes into operation, definitely that would be dishonoring the clause.

The experience of watching a new movie in the theatres will be lost as we would be missing the shared experience. Will this new model roll out successfully and what would be the strategy of the theatre chains to go upfront against this?
