There was a time when Tamil director Shankar was positioned to make a strong comeback in the Tamil industry, challenging Rajamouli.
However, Rajamouli’s scale and stature have since grown much bigger and are now beyond Shankar’s reach.
After watching Mani Ratnam’s “Thug Life” promo yesterday, many feel that, rather than competing with Rajamouli, Shankar can’t even match Mani, who is setting up exciting projects that capture the interest of larger audiences these days.
His “PS1” and “PS2” performed well in Tamil Nadu and paved the way for a senior director like Mani Ratnam to set up exciting and different projects.
In contrast, Shankar has much to prove with his next two films, “Indian 2” and “Game Changer.” The success of these two films will decide his position in the rankings of South Indian directors.
