Game Over For Dunki Or…?

Dunki

Dunki’s box office performance on its second day saw a decline, with Shah Rukh Khan’s starrer collecting ₹21 crore on Friday, bringing the total earnings to ₹50.2 crore.

Despite a 25% drop from its first day, Dunki held its ground well. The film faced a challenge as Salaar, a new release, affected its screen count by approximately 30%. While a drop is expected on the second day after a Thursday release, the presence of a major competitor makes this performance relatively stable.

Initial expectations were high for Dunki, with some trade analysts predicting a first-day collection of ₹50 crores. The two-day figure, however, has disappointed, leading some to label it as a flop.

Dunki, belonging to the drama genre, faces challenges in the post-pandemic era, where viewers of such films have shifted to OTT platforms. Contemporary audiences lean towards high-budget action dramas that justify the costly cinema tickets. Despite this, Dunki has outperformed other films in a similar genre, such as Laal Singh Chaddha, Raksha Bandhan, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, and Rocky Ranii Ki Prem Kahani.

While speculations arise about Dunki’s fate, SRK fans remain optimistic, believing that the real game is about to begin. Neutral audiences have appreciated the film, and with the Christmas holiday season approaching, expectations rise for a significant surge in Dunki’s collections.

A final judgment on the film’s trajectory will only be possible after the first week. Until then, echoing Shah Rukh Khan’s words, “Picture Abhi Baaki Hai Mere Dost!”
