HanuMan: What Went Wrong In North?

Hanu Man Hindi Collections

In its second weekend, HanuMan (Hindi) performed well, accumulating a net total of over 11 crore, which is quite similar to its first weekend. The film has now gathered a net total of over 37 crores, with a big boost on Monday due to the Ram Mandir inauguration holiday in the North.

The film is heading for a lifetime collection of 50 crores which is commendable and makes it a HIT. But the way it started initially the trade expected the film would go past the 75 crore mark. But it will now settle somewhere around 50 crores.

The main drawback of the film for the North audience was that the HanuMan didn’t turn out to be the devotional film they were expecting it to be. HanuMan was more of a superhero film with small touches of mythology here and there. Had HanuMan incorporated more devotional elements into its storyline, it could have garnered a response akin to Kantara or even Karthikeya 2.

Karthikeya 2 can be called a bigger success than HanuMan in North because Karthikeya 2 started from a very low starting point. The first-day collections in the North were a meager 7 lakhs. And then it went on to collect 30 crores in its lifetime which was phenomenal.

The Lord Krishna factor worked like magic with the north Indian audience in Karthikeya 2, whereas HanuMan lacked a significant devotional portrayal of Lord Hanuman, except for the last 10 minutes of the film.
