Damage Before Eyes, Still Four Films Clash!

Tollywood filmmakers have the habit of lining up multiple new films during festival seasons or at times, even normal weekends. A similar thing is happening in December now.

There are 4 new notable theatrical debuts on December 7th and 8th and they are – Hi Nanna, Extra Ordinary Man, Gangs of Godavari, and Mission Valentine. Hi Nanna is releasing on 7 Dec while the other 3 are releasing on 8 Dec.

Incidentally, Tollywood saw what happened at the box office this Dasara season. A multi-way clash will certainly eat into the prospects of each of the clashing films.

Leo started brightly and then slowed down, and Tiger Nageswara Rao is a non-starter. Bhagavanth Kesari is progressing with picked-up momentum. In the end, there was no need for these films to clash just for Dasara, they could’ve simply picked other weekends for better returns possibly.

The audiences are clearly going to films based on the merits and not just for the sake of watching a film during festival seasons. Needless to say, movie-watching has become a costly affair with a family of 3-4 having to spend in the range of Rs 1500-2000 per film.

The damage of releasing multiple films in a single weekend is clearly showing as the loss is collectively shared by all of them in varying degrees. In that case, running after a single weekend is as pointless as it can get. But still, four Telugu mainstream films are clashing in the second weekend of December.

If the makers are really confident about the content, they should go for other weekends instead of coming in the same weekend and losing a chunk of whatever prospects they have.
