HC Halts RGV’s Propaganda Film Vyooham

Ram Gopal Varma, known for his propaganda films, faces a legal battle as the Telangana High Court steps in to stop the release of his latest movie, ‘Vyooham.’ TDP leaders initiated the court case, accusing the film of defaming their party members.

The courtroom drama unfolded with arguments from both sides. RGV’s defense, led by Senior Counsel MP Niranjan Reddy, highlighted the Censor Board’s approval and emphasized the constitutional right to artistic freedom.

On the opposing side, TDP’s lawyer Murali Dhar Rao claimed ‘Vyooham’ targeted party leaders, portraying them negatively, especially Chandrababu Naidu, Nara Lokesh, and Pawan Kalyan. The film, alleged to have a political agenda, was said to sway public opinion during the AP elections.

In its verdict, the High Court expressed concerns about objectionable scenes and the film’s potential impact on the elections, leading to the revocation of its Censor Certificate and a delay in release until January 11. Meanwhile, the Congress party filed a petition alleging defamation against Sonia Gandhi and sought a re-review of the film’s certification.

Amidst the legal challenges, calls for Ram Gopal Varma’s expulsion from the state surfaced, citing fears that ‘Vyooham’ could fuel political animosity. TDP protests escalated, with youth leader Ravipati Sai Krishna leading a symbolic foot march against Varma, symbolically garlanding his poster with slippers.
