Hitech Policing through Social Media!

Bengaluru Police have started hitech policing, the first ever in the country through social media. The department had hired 20 young tech-savvy cops who run the social media arm of Bengaluru police. They are expected to her to read every post on Bengaluru City Police Facebook page daily, assess its seriousness, respond appropriately and forward the complaint or suggestion to the right person.

The team works round the clock in three shifts. Bengaluru Police have the largest social media presence With 122 Twitter handles, over 150 WhatsApp groups and a host of email ids and apps. Off late, their social media presence proved to be very useful.

The team is also expected to make logs of their daily activities, including how many e-petitions were received and what action has been taken on them. Recently Cyberabad Police sent a team to Bengaluru to study the social media arm of the department so as to implement it here.
