SIR notices reach Hyderabad celebrities

SIR notices have now reached some of the biggest names in Hyderabad. Actor Mahesh Babu, director SS Rajamouli and former India cricketer VVS Laxman are among the prominent personalities who have reportedly received notices as part of the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.

The list is not limited to these three names. Several other celebrities and sports personalities are also reportedly figuring in the notice list, including Saina Nehwal, Mithali Raj, Pullela Gopichand, Venkatesh and his two daughters, Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Vijay Deverakonda. Murali Krishnam Raju and Upasana Konidela are also among the names being discussed in connection with the notices.

There is no allegation against these celebrities. The notices are part of the voter verification exercise. The issue being raised is how their names ended up requiring verification in the first place.

Name differences, mistakes in fathers’ names and voter mapping problems are being cited as some of the reasons. There are also complaints from voters who say they had already submitted the required documents but are now being asked to produce them again.

Questions are also being raised over the role of BLOs and AEROs, with allegations that some documents were not properly digitised or mapped. In some areas, voters reportedly received notices even after the hearing date had passed.

Kukatpally and Moosapet have also seen complaints over the handling of the process, while officials have acknowledged errors involving operators and the verification system.

With complaints coming from Hyderabad, Medchal and Rangareddy, the celebrity names have brought much more attention to an issue already troubling thousands of voters.

The question now is simple: if voters have already submitted their documents, why are they being asked to prove it again?
