In under a month from now the collaborative effort of Superstar Rajinikanth and happening Tamil film maker Lokesh Kanagaraj, Coolie will be releasing in theatres.
This happens to be one of the better hyped Tamil films in recent and has a real shot of going big at the box office. But it appears that certain Tamil audience on social media are grossly overestimating the actual box office prospect of this film.
There are several proud post on social media about how this Rajinikanth film good potentially end up with over rupees thousand crore gross at the box office. Many Tamil folk on social media are proudly saying this film will be the first entry in the thousand crore market from Tamil cinema.
But that is not even remotely the case in reality, and there is a very strong reason behind this comment.
Firstly, this film has very little prospect in the Hindi belt, which is extremely crucial for any Indian film to touch rupees thousand crore mark. The likes of, Kalki, RRR, Pushpa, and Baahubali 2 which had all gone past the Rs 1000 crore mark had a strong run in the Hindi belt.
Historical speaking, Tamil cinema has had very little patronage amongst the Hindi audience. The case of this Rajinikanth film might be no different either. There have been very little promotional efforts in Hindi, and naturally we can’t expect much push from the Hindi folk either.
In Telugu, the openings are guaranteed to be strong which is due to the vacuum for big film experience.
But whether or not, it can touch blockbuster Jailer, which reportedly grossed over ₹80 crore is a question. So in logical terms, it appears that the proud claims about this film touching 1000 crore mark are largely superficial.
