The December release window is drawing attention with three major films set to clash. Trade experts are closely watching how IMAX screens will be shared, especially since such theatres are limited in India.
Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three are scheduled to release on the same day. About a week later, King, starring Shah Rukh Khan, is expected to hit theatres.
Among these, Dune: Part Three is likely to secure the most IMAX screens. The film is reportedly designed for IMAX viewing, which gives it an advantage in allocation.
Avengers: Doomsday, however, will release in multiple formats. This wider accessibility could help it generate stronger box office numbers despite limited IMAX access.
The format for King is still unclear. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh believes the film will have strong global appeal due to Shah Rukh Khan’s fan base.
He noted that King could perform like a major event film. However, he also pointed out that IMAX availability may remain a challenge due to competition from Hollywood releases.
Exhibitor Vishek Chauhan echoed similar views. He stated that Hollywood films are expected to dominate IMAX screens during this period.
According to industry sources, Dune: Part Three may hold IMAX screens for the first week. Avengers: Doomsday could take over in the second week, depending on demand.
King might get IMAX screens only if it is released in the format. Its chances will depend on scheduling and overall box office performance.
With limited IMAX screens across India, allocation will play a key role. The final impact on box office numbers will depend on how these premium screens are distributed.
For now, the December clash remains uncertain. The battle for IMAX screens could become a decisive factor in determining the success of all three films.
