The shooting of Rajinikanth’s much-awaited sequel Jailer 2, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, is nearing completion. According to reports, Rajinikanth has finished filming his portions, with only a small amount of patchwork left to be completed.
Earlier, industry buzz suggested that the makers were planning a September release for Jailer 2. However, those expectations changed after Sardar 2 officially announced its release on September 10, occupying the most favourable release window that month.
Following that announcement, many expected Jailer 2 to target the Diwali holiday period. Since Dhanush’s Om had already locked the Dussehra release date of October 16, a Diwali release appeared to be the more likely option.
Fresh reports, however, suggest a different plan. Industry speculation now indicates that the makers are considering an October 15 release, aiming to take advantage of the Dussehra festival weekend.
If these reports turn out to be accurate and Om retains its October 16 release, the festive season could witness a major box office clash between Rajinikanth and Dhanush.
The speculation has also sparked debate on social media. Some believe Om would eventually be postponed if Jailer 2 confirms the Dussehra slot, while others argue that releasing alongside Rajinikanth’s film would be a risky decision.
Another section of fans believes the makers of Om announced their release date first and deserve to retain the festival slot. They feel the Jailer 2 team should choose a different date if they want to avoid disrupting another film’s release plans.
At present, these discussions remain based on speculation. The makers of Jailer 2 have not officially announced a release date, and it remains to be seen whether the film will arrive on October 15 or follow a different release strategy.
