Kalki 2: Nag Ashwin Raises Major Doubts on Prabhas Film

Kalki 2898 AD changed the game for Prabhas. After films like Saaho, Radhe Shyam, and Adipurush flopped badly and Salaar did not perform as expected, Nag Ashwin’s film gave Prabhas a big pan-India success. Naturally, expectations for Kalki 2 are huge. But the latest update from Nag Ashwin suggests that fans may have to wait much longer for the sequel.

Nag Ashwin recently revealed that he has shot only around 10 days of Kalki 2 so far. More importantly, Prabhas has not yet shot for the film.

This has changed the picture completely. A few months ago, there was strong talk that Kalki 2 was moving fast and could release by the end of 2027. Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan also taking part in the shoot gave the impression that important portions were already being completed. The reality now seems very different. Kalki 2 is still in the early stages, while Prabhas is busy with other films.

Prabhas’ immediate priority is Fauzi. Hanu Raghavapudi’s period action film is being prepared for a December release. After that, Prabhas will join Spirit for Sandeep Reddy Vanga, which is targeting a March release next year.

This leaves very little time for Kalki 2.

Prabhas can work on multiple films, but Kalki 2 is not an ordinary project. It needs large shooting schedules, huge sets and a lot of VFX work. Rushing the film just to meet a release date could affect its quality.

Interestingly, the Kalki 2 team does not seem to be in a hurry. The focus is reportedly on completing the pre-production properly so that production can move smoothly once Prabhas becomes available.

But the timeline is a concern.

If Fauzi keeps Prabhas busy this year and Spirit takes up his time in 2027, Kalki 2 could be pushed further. There are also reports that Salaar 2 could get priority. After Prabhas joins Kalki 2, Nag Ashwin will still need considerable time to complete the shoot and massive VFX work.

Because of this, Kalki 2 may now release only in the second half of 2028 or even early 2029.

For fans, that is a very long wait. But for a film as big as Kalki 2, the real question is not how fast it can be made.

It is whether Nag Ashwin can make the wait completely worth it.
