Usually, when a film is a mega blockbuster at the box office, it tends to have at least a decent run on OTT if not a pretty good one. However, the exact opposite happened in the case of Kalki, which marked the coming together of Prabhas and Nag Ashwin.
After having collected ₹1100 crore gross at the box office, the film was an outright dud on OTT. It could not generate any substantial viewer base, and in fact got mocked for the lack of repeat value.

Coming to the topic now, the film has now silently debut on small screens as it was devised on Zee TV recently. However, much like the lackluster response on OTT, the film was more or less rejected on the small screens as well.
As per the latest reports, Kalki could generate a disastrous 5.26 TRP during its television, Premier on Zee Telugu. This is a pretty poor number, considering the scale of the film and also the kind of box office reception it git.

Usually event films get a good patronage on the small screens as the family audience prefer to watch it again. But in the case of Kalki, this did not translate to TRP as the film could not gain their attention of the small screen audience either.
This is more less a sign of concern for director, Nagi. There were several complaints about the zero, repeat value of the film and a virtually stagnant first half. This is widely regarded as the weakest writing work of Nagi till date.

The serious issue needs to be addressed by this talented director as he is now preparing to make this sequel of the film.
The story needs to be more engaging and so does the narrative in either halves. Though his presentation and visual storytelling was decent enough, the core narrative and the way in which the scenes led to the Mahabharatha episode in climax were extremely lethargic.
Nagi will have to address several complaints while making the sequel, and all these pointers from the OTT rejection and lack of interest on small screens will come to play. He comes across as a smart operator and we can expect him to come with reciprocal measures with the sequel.
