Thug Life, Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam’s much-anticipated film has become the latest victim of piracy.
Latest reports suggest that Thug Life’s HD print is now available on torrent sites and Telegram. It even includes subtitles, making it appear as if it’s an official version rather than a pirated one.
The film turned out to be a washout at the box office. Right after its first show on June 5, negative word-of-mouth began spreading, which led to poor audience turnout.
The film has emerged as one of the biggest disasters in recent times — even worse than Indian 2.
Many viewers were waiting for its OTT release on Netflix, just to see how bad it really was.
Initially, the makers had promised an 8-week gap between the theatrical and digital release, but after the film’s pathetic performance in cinemas, they are now reportedly planning an early release — around June 27.
However, with the HD pirated version already circulating online, it could deliver a major blow to Netflix, which acquired the OTT rights at a hefty price.
A significant portion of the audience may have already watched Thug Life through illegal means, instead of waiting for its official streaming release.
