Kamal-Rajini with Lokesh Shelved? Coolie Effect?

Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth film trouble

Reports had suggested that Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth would join hands for a film directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. The project was set to go on floors next year. Fans were excited about the collaboration, but now it seems the film may be shelved.

Bollywood industry tracker Himesh Mankad shared on X that one of the biggest two-hero films ever is now in trouble. He hinted that if a new director is brought on board, the film could start in January, otherwise fans may have to wait much longer.

According to him, the script is ready, but the makers are searching for a new director. A filmmaker who worked with one of the superstars before the pandemic might be considered if the other star agrees.

Initially, many thought Himesh was hinting at Tiger vs Pathaan starring Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan. But it is now clear that his post was about Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth’s film with Lokesh Kanagaraj.

The disappointing reception of Lokesh’s latest film Coolie with Rajinikanth appears to be the main reason for this situation. The film is still being criticised on social media after its OTT release for its weak story and direction.

Lokesh may now have to focus on Kaithi 2 and let go of this massive project, at least for the moment. If a skilled director is found, the film could still happen, but chances seem slim right now.

This is the second Lokesh Kanagaraj film to be dropped after the Aamir Khan superhero project. Coolie has sparked doubts about his ability to deliver, showing just how tough the industry can be.
